Spiritbound

Overview:

(This background is largely intended for a Sylvarin Vulpin, but other local races can be viable options; including: Brumark, Gladefolk, Taivaskar, Sylphine, Strigyn, Brackenburrow, or Vitauri)

You carry a bond that few still understand.

Long ago, it was tradition among the Sylvarin Vulpin for young kin to bind themselves to a spirit. The bond was mutual, allowing spirit and mortal to guide and strengthen one another throughout the kin’s life. After the fall of Arindyl and the unrest that followed, the practice nearly vanished. Many feared the dangers of spirit binding. Others believed the spirits themselves had withdrawn.

Yet somehow, your bond endured.

Whether by tradition, circumstance, or chance, you formed a connection with a spirit willing to remain at your side. Through that bond, you learned to sense disturbances in the natural balance. Places where spirits grow restless. Places where something feels wrong. In recent years, those disturbances have become harder to ignore. Spirits disappear without explanation. Ancient places feel quieter than they should. Some refuse to approach certain objects or locations entirely.

You do not yet know the cause.

But you intend to find it.

Features:

Feature: Spiritual Sensitivity

Your bond allows you to sense disturbances tied to spirits, Essence, and spiritual imbalance. You may not immediately understand the cause, but you can recognize when an area, object, or creature has been affected by unnatural spiritual influence. Spirits and spiritually sensitive creatures may also react differently to your presence.

Feature: Spirit Bond

You share a lasting connection with a bonded spirit. Your spirit may offer emotional support, instinctive warnings, or subtle guidance at the DM’s discretion. While the spirit is not directly controllable and grants no mechanical benefit, the bond may influence dreams, interactions, and moments tied to spiritual activity or unrest.
