What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Presently, discussion boards are not linked to character world entries or roll functionality in any meaningful way, so far as i have been able to discover.
So, for instance, when rolling in a roleplay forum, the dice code must be manually input in a discussion board post. (The dice roller also doesn't have all the functionality from the bbcode one, but i think i read somewhere that is already being worked on?)
It would be wonderful to instead be able to click a button on a character statblock or world page and insert a roll in some fashion.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
I can see two notable ways this could be completed:
First, clicking a roll button could simply put in a complete post showing the roll characteristics, name, and results. That method would allow players to type up their action and post it, then go click the roll button to post the die roll.
Alternatively, clicking the roll button could instead just put the code of that roll into a discussion board post in progress, allowing the player to type up the associated roleplay action and other details afterwards and submit to see the result.
In either case, there would need to be a means of determining which discussion thread the roll went to. Probably a pop-up window or some such that showed active threads from that world's discussion boards that had dice rolling turned on? Or perhaps there could be a way to just set the "active scene" for each player in a board so all thst player's rolls went there.
Alternatively, possibly simpler: The roll button could have a "copy formula" function that would let the player just copy the die roll formula from the button, navigate to the board, and paste it like we already can article blocks and such, but in the die roll space so it rolls when posted rather than creating a new button.
What are other uses for this feature request?
I think this is probably mostly just useful for speeding up / making roleplaying more convenient in the discussion boards.
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! This would be an incredibly complex feature to implement, and therefore would require a very high level of support from the community.
