What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Timelines are hard to work with in a grand timescale, essentially useless and difficult to view any of the events without scrolling endlessly. There should be a list of chronological events visible that lets the user change location in the timeline to that event without scrolling. The timeline should be a visualization, not act as the UI at the same time. Please separate the UI from the visualization more. There is no ability to know the time scale being viewed, IE how many years are being shown on my screen right now.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
If I want to make something spanning thousands of years. You need to be able to access and interact with the things you intend to interact with! If I have to scroll or search for the historical event I made moments ago in the same window, its so clunky.
What are other uses for this feature request?
The Team's Response
This already exists! Timelines have two modes, the default timescale mode, and the list mode, which emulates the old timelines by removing all separation between events. You can switch in the timeline's settings. Both modes are equally supported and valid, they simply take different approaches to representing time.
More information on timeline modes.
If you want to stay on timescale mode, you can hop between events without scrolling by using the arrows on the right of the screen.
