Use Relationships or Diplomacy between different article types

What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

Being able to use the relationship or diplomacy system with articles of other types.   Currently being limited to only using diplomacy with other organizations or relationships with other characters is limiting in an RPG setting where tracking more complex relationships between characters, organizations, and objects in a two-way format would be incredibly helpful.   A few other functional additions beyond just linking different article types together that would expand the use of the diplomacy or relationship systems:
  1. Being able to change the unit value of the scales (days, miles, pounds, etc.)
  2. Being able to select if you want a two value scale (current) or a single value scale where the value is shared between the two linked entities (distance remaining, days until completion, etc.)
  3. Custom labels and/or descriptions of the values being tracked

How does this feature request address the current situation?

I often use both systems to track the relationships between my party as an organization and other factions as well as party members as characters to other NPCs but I'm unable to track relationships between articles of differing types.
I want to be able to track relationships between articles of varrying

What are other uses for this feature request?

If this feature was an extension of the relationships or diploamcy features with customizable labels and units it could be a very useful system for 2-way linking many types of articles together with a common scale.   It could also be used as a type of "Progress Clock" to track the progress towards certain goals.
  • Progress towards accomplishing a goal (organization or character a plot)
  • Journey Progress (organization or character a settlement, geography, or building)
  • Magical Item Creation Progress (Character an item)
  • Religious Tollerance (Country or Ogranization a Religion)
  • Resource Abundance (Species, Material, or Technology organizations, countries, geography, or settlement)
The list of possible use cases could go on quite awhile if there was a decent amount of customization available with the labels, and units.

The Team's Response

Thanks for the suggestion! Relationships between characters and organizations will be implemented as part of a future relationships update.   Everything else in this suggestion is accepted under investigation. We think it's a good idea, but we're not sure how to go about it yet so it may or may not happen, pending further discussion.

The fact that I can't use the "organization relationships" for individual characters drives me crazy every time I sit down to do world building.

Hm. I see how this might be really useful, but I guess the database-load would be immense since it adds a ton of new stuff. Personally, I'd go with a new bbcode for a progressbar and then use key::value pairs and links in the sidebar with a progressbar to show such progress options. That would be flexible and easy to set up, without adding a ton to the database, but that's just my opinion.
