The current article system in World Anvil lacks the ability to rearrange sections within templates and does not support tabs or separate pages within a single article. This makes it difficult to control how information is presented. When creating a deity, for example, the layout is fixed, so readers may see Divine Domains and Powers before more important narrative elements like Personal History. This is unsatisfying because it limits how creators guide the reader’s experience and forces important lore to be buried under preset categories. In addition, having all information displayed on one long page can feel overwhelming, especially for detailed entries, with no clear way to break it into cleaner, more digestible sections.
This feature request would address the issue by allowing users to move and organize sections within an article freely, while also adding the ability to create tabs or pages inside the article. Reordering sections would let creators control the flow of information, such as placing Personal History at the top where it naturally introduces the deity. The addition of tabs or pages would allow large amounts of content to be separated into categories like Overview, History, Powers, and Worship, making the article easier to navigate and less overwhelming for readers.
Beyond deity creation, this feature would be useful across many types of articles. Characters could have tabs for background, personality, and abilities; kingdoms could separate history, politics, and culture; and magic systems could organize rules, limitations, and examples. Overall, adding section reordering and tabs/pages would give creators more control over presentation and significantly improve organization, readability, and the user experience across the entire platform. I tried watching videos and looking up information to see if this is already a feature, but I couldn’t find anything or may not have understood it fully. If this feature already exists, please help point me in the right direction so I can figure it out.
Reordering prompts has been requested before, and the response is either: A. use custom article templates, as here; B. create your own headings in the article content areas, as here; or C. there may be reordering capability in WA 1.0, as here, though WA 1.0 doesn't have a release date at this time (to my knowledge). Built-in support for tabbed navigation would be cool, though I wouldn't expect it prior to WA 1.0. In the meantime, Grandmasters like yourself can make custom tabbed navigation. Stop by the WA Discord's css-help channel if you'd like to help with doing so.
Okay, so I think I get what you're trying to do, so here a few things you could try: (1) You can just leave the specific sections empty and put all the info in the "Content" section in the order you want, using headers to separate (it will look like you have different sections) OR with some membership tiers you can make your own templates; this would just fix the order-problem, not the tab request. (2) For the tab request, I am sure you could do this via css yourself, however I am not good at css styling, so I usually just look for stuff other people have put together, for example in the codex. All in all, having the option to present the different sections in an article with tabs sounds cool!
