images imagemanagement imagelinking
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
Currently if one has pictures in their gallery that they havent named adequately or can hover over in an article, the images will be hard to find, save for searching the whole gallery, which especially since the update is difficult due to it only loading in small batches. This makes pictures which are portraits or cover images incredibly hard to find if they have not been appropriately named in gallery upon upload.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
With this feature, if an image is used in article (as header/character image or pasted into the text), the image or the images's gallery description would hold the information about where it is currently being used and would maybe show this as a list. so one would be able to search the gallery by article name and find any images pasted into/used in the article and such.
Follow up
wanted to clarify that yes, if you can find out the image ID in the bbcode if the image is pasted into a textbox or side-bar, however this doesn't apply to images that are selected as a character portrait, organization crest or are in an article header. the only way to "find" those images if they aren't properly named is to re-download them from the article and add them anew (which unavoidably causes it to be in the gallery twice) if you want to have them findable. this feature would also as mentioned by others be useful to find images that go unused or might be misplaced or in wrong use in an article <3
The Team's Response
Thanks for the suggestion! While we see why this would be useful, we can't accept it because of technical constraints. Backlink look-ups are extremely heavy on the database as they require a complete scan of your world all at once every time the feature loads.
