manuscripts emoji unicode
What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
My story is set in a world like ours with cellphones, social media and email. I have sections that include text exchanges and messages between characters, but WA manuscripts have no support for emoji and refuse to save if these characters are present, limiting this type of exchange to dry old-fashioned irc text-based emotes ;)
I recognize that this may be a niche issue and I'm not sure how difficult it is from a technical perspective to allow these symbols, but wanted to open that conversation at least.
How does this feature request address the current situation?
If we can use emoji we can represent a very common form of modern communication.
What are other uses for this feature request?
Outside of manuscripts: I've also noted at times that it would be nice to use emoji as regular icons in different places. I realize we have font-awesome and rpg-awesome support in several places, but using those options is sometimes overly complicated (have to go to another website and search for codes to apply) when regular Unicode emoji are familiar and in broad use already, do the same job and may offer more applicable icons.
The Team's Response
This is extremely dangerous to implement on articles since it will require the complete re-encoding of the database and there are several tens of millions of articles there.
It's already implemented on the Discussion boards (sneakily) and I can implement it in some other non super vital systems but certainly not on articles.
