What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?
At the moment, I don't think the dropdown list of document types in the Document Template has anything that would consistently work well for a map or star chart.
Therefore, I would like to request that "Guide, Map" and "Guide, Star Chart" be added to the dropdown list. (While I think Guide does make most sense as the prefix, I would also be happy with any other if you think it would fit better.)
How does this feature request address the current situation?
While "Guide, Survival" is an option (and would be suitable in many (most?) contexts), it doesn't really fit when the map isn't being used for navigating. For example, in one of my worlds, space travel isn't possible but astrological star charts are used as a form of secret code.
What are other uses for this feature request?
It would also be more helpful for worldbuilders who would like the option to be more specific in their type label.
Follow up
I agree with Scalenex regarding the atlas idea - perhaps "Study, Geographical" would fit the existing pattern?
To respond to Lucifer__oO, I am asking to add a couple of options to the dropdown Type box (next to the pronunciation field) in the Documents template: "Guide, Map" & "Guide, Star Chart".
In response to Dimitri's response - thank you so much for accepting my request, and I'm looking forward to the feature going live. The map subtype is a great idea, although I feel you've maybe missed a few options:
"Map, Treasure"
"Map, Artistic"
"Map, Atlas"
These would be useful to have, since they don't really easily fall into any of the categories that you've created (I know Scalenex requested Atlas be a separate option in this post). I hope I haven't overstepped a line by suggesting these here, I am happy to make it into a new formal request if that is preferred. Thank you again for accepting my suggestion and for all the work you do on World Anvil.
The Team's Response
After thinking about this for a bit, a wee bit of research, I think that maps deserve their own document subtypes, I have added the following types of document:
'Map, Geological',
'Map, Geopolitical',
'Map, Topographic ',
'Map, Survey',
'Map, Military',
'Map, Historical',
'Map, Weather',
'Map, Economic ',
'Map, Star Chart',
'Map, Thematic',
The feature will go like later in the week.
