Solar and Lunar Year

Beginning of the Solar Year

The changing of the solar year occurs on midsummer in the Middle Seas Region, and is marked by the conjunction of all three moons.   This particular conjunction occurs only once per year. It is the subject of a variety of local myths and folklore, but perhaps the most impacted are seaborne and coastal peoples of Zihæt. During this period, tides are significantly stronger than at any other time during the solar year. Middle Seas Storms and local effects such as the Maelstrom are also significantly stronger during this period.

Months of the Zihæt Year

The calendar of Zihæt is divided into nine 33 day periods. These 33 day periods correspond to the lunar cycle of the largest moon, and most influential on natural phenomenon, Ven.

Month 1

The first month of the begins with full summer. The summer solstice occurs on the first day of the first month of the year. It also coincides with the full conjunction of all three moons.

Month 2

The second month of the year transitions from late summer to mid-Autumn.

Month 3

The Autumn equinox occurs on the 10th day of the third month of the year.

Month 4

The fourth month of the year transitions from late fall to early winter.

Month 5

The fifth month represents midwinter. The winter solstice occurs on the 18th day of the fifth month of the year.

Month 6

The sixth month of the year transitions from mid-winter to early spring.

Month 7

The seventh month builds into full spring by the end of the month. The spring equinox occurs on the 26th month of the 7th month.

Month 9

This calendar is well thought out but I think the calendar could use some flowery names in place of Month 1, Month 2, etc. Months could be named after gods, past leaders, or the could be descriptors of the weather. I mined this thread for inspiration.   https://forums.giantitp.com/showthread.php?556610-The-Months Here is what I used for my world.   https://www.worldanvil.com/w/scarterra-scalenex/a/scarterran-calendar2C-days-and-months-ritual
