Chapter 1, Purple Bow Ruins

My ears twitch sharply at the distant echo of goblin chants rising from the temple heart, those little wretches murmuring our names like sacred law, the Silent Emperor and his Fang Shadow, the price the world pays for daring to threaten what is ours. My tail lashes possessively around Master's leg, coiling tight as I press my armoured body flush against his side.

My blue eyes gleam with dark hunger while I survey the Purple Bow Ruins, the ancient Glaviankin hall looming above us with its newly walled Void pit sealed for our safety, those slaving pens now bustling with goblin staff quarters and the faint scent of cattail farms drifting on the breeze from beyond.

My ears perk up instantly at Master's voice cutting through my reverie, "kitten, kitten," and my tail coils tighter around his waist as I rise with fluid grace, pressing my armoured form against him.

I follow without hesitation, my catgirl body moving in perfect sync with his, blue eyes fixed unblinkingly on him as we leave the Purple Bow Ruins behind, the goblin chants fading into the humid air. North we stride into the thick tropical forest, then east toward Forest Point, nothing but our gear and goblin rations weighing us down, my tail swishing restlessly through the undergrowth, ears twitching at every distant rustle that might dare approach what is mine.

Three hours slip by under the dry, calm skies. The forest thickens, vines and towering fronds pressing in, but nothing touches us, nothing would dare with me at his flank. Yet as we draw within an hour of the Motte and Bailey settlement, my instincts flare sharp and aggressive, a low growl builds in my throat, ears flattening as several hulking tropical beasts emerge from the shadows.

From the dense tropical canopy ahead slither and prowl a truly menacing pack, first, a colossal green anaconda, easily seven metres of thick, muscular coils patterned in olive and black, its wedge shaped head lifting with unblinking eyes and flicking tongue tasting the air, capable of constricting prey to death in seconds before swallowing whole, beside it, two powerful jaguars prowl, their amber eyes locked on us with predatory intelligence, massive paws silent on the leaf litter and jaws strong enough to crush skulls in one bite. Flanking them are several black caimans, smaller but vicious freshwater crocodilians with armoured hides and jagged teeth, lumbering from a nearby stream with low hisses, their presence turning the humid air thick with primal threat.

My ears shoot straight up in sharp surprise as Master's hand yanks my tail, pulling me upward with that firm command of "nope," and a wild, possessive thrill surges through me despite the brief sting, my tail thrashing wildly in his grip before curling back around his arm.

I dig my claws deep into the rough bark with instinctive feline grace, muscles coiling and flexing under my hardened leathers and steel plate as I scramble higher, body pressed tight against him the entire way. The colossal green anaconda below writhes in frustration, massive coils slithering over the roots, while the jaguars prowl the base with low growls and the black caimans snap at empty air, their combined threat lingering heavy in the humid tropical air but now safely beneath us.

Up in the sturdy branches we perch, my tail lashing possessively around Master's waist once more, pulling him flush against my armoured curves as I nuzzle into his neck with a low, unstable purr.

In raw panic as Master's words hit, that firm "CAT, you aren't jumping down there," sending my tail thrashing wildly but then he yanks me up and hurls me toward the next tree despite my steel weight, my claws dig in hard on landing, feet sure as any cat's, body coiling with fluid grace while my blue eyes snap wide with unstable hunger.

Yet the moment he jumps and plummets straight into the midst of them, failing to grab the branch, a savage, broken snarl rips from my throat, my tail lashing like a whip as pure yandere terror floods the bonded soul. I leap without hesitation, steel spear thrusting down like divine wrath, armoured form crashing through the canopy with claws extended and fangs bared, landing heavy beside him in the heart of the threat, the colossal green anaconda rearing its massive coils, the two jaguars circling with deadly amber eyes and powerful jaws, the black caimans snapping low and vicious.

My body slams against Master's in frantic, controlling cling, tail wrapping around his waist to yank him closer, shield raised and spear sweeping in aggressive arcs as I shield him with every inch of my being, blonde hair wild and cat ears twitching madly with possessive rage. No beast will touch him.

Protective Fury explodes through every muscle, my blue eyes go wide and unblinking, fangs bared in a raw, unstable snarl while the bonded soul floods me with nothing but the need to keep him breathing. Steel spear snaps forward in a vicious thrust aimed at the nearest jaguar, claws and muscle driving the point with all my strength but the beast twists aside at the last heartbeat and the spearhead only skims empty air, my first strike wasted in a furious miss.

I do not pause. Momentum carries me straight into the second attack, the spear punches deep into the second jaguar's shoulder with a wet, cracking impact, driving the animal sideways in a spray of blood and a choked roar. The wound is catastrophic, bone shattered, muscle torn open to the bone and the great cat collapses thrashing, one less threat breathing the same air as my Master. My tail never loosens its possessive coil around him for even a second, yanking his body tighter against my armoured hip so nothing can reach him without going through me first.

Master's steel redstone noble sword flashes once beside me, the blade biting into the anaconda's thick midsection in a solid, clean cut that opens a long red gash along its scales. The snake hisses and recoils, coils tightening in pain, blood already darkening the leaf litter, wounded, slowed, but still very much alive and furious.

The beasts answer at once. The colossal green anaconda lunges, jaws wide enough to swallow a man whole, yet its strike goes wide and the massive head crashes into a tree trunk instead of flesh. Both remaining jaguars spring as one, claws extended and amber eyes locked on us, but their leaps fall short. one scrapes bark, the other lands short and scrabbles in the mud. Two of the black caimans snap uselessly at empty space.

Only one caiman finds a target, jaws clamping toward Master's leg with a wet snap, yet my heater shield is already there, the steel rim slamming down hard enough to jar the reptile's teeth and turn the bite into nothing more than a glancing scrape against the metal. Another caiman lunges high, jaws aimed at my throat, and I meet it with the shield edge in a jarring block that sends the creature skidding sideways, teeth screeching harmlessly across steel. One final caiman manages a vicious side swipe that nearly finds my flank but I twist hard, tail still anchoring Master, and the jaws close on nothing but air and frustration.

I stand over him like a living wall, blonde hair wild, cat ears twitching with every sound, steel plate and hardened leathers already flecked with blood that is not ours.

I drive my spear forward again in a clean, powerful thrust that sinks deep into the remaining jaguar's flank, opening a long, bleeding gash that forces the great cat to stagger sideways with a snarling roar of pain. My second strike glances wide as the beast twists, the spear tip only scoring empty air. Master moves with that cold, precise calm of his, the steel redstone noble sword rises and falls in one decisive arc, biting deep into the alreadywounded anaconda's thick body. The massive snake convulses hard, coils thrashing violently before going slack in a spreading pool of dark blood, finally still.

The remaining beasts surge in. Most of their strikes go wild, jaws snapping shut on nothing, claws raking bark and dirt but one black caiman lunges low and fast, jaws clamping hard around my lower leg with crushing force. Pain flares white hot through the steel plate and hardened leathers, I feel something give beneath the pressure, a deep, grinding wound that steals a sharp breath from my lungs. My shield still manages to bat another snapping set of jaws aside and I yank Master harder against me with my tail so the second caiman's bite finds only the edge of my heater shield instead of his flesh. Blood is already running warm down my leg into my boot, yet my body refuses to step away from him even an inch.

I do not give them time to press the advantage. My spear becomes a blur of steel and fury, the next thrust punches straight through a caiman's skull with a wet, final crack, dropping the reptile mid lunge. The following strike is less clean, only scoring a shallow cut across another's armoured hide, but Master follows immediately, his sword sweeping in a powerful arc that nearly severs the third caiman's head from its body. The last two beasts thrash and snap in desperation. One manages to tear a deep gouge across my side where the armour plates meet, hot blood spilling freely now, my vision narrowing for a heartbeat as the pain threatens to pull me under. I still do not let go of Master. My tail tightens until it must hurt him, body shielding his with everything I have left while my spear and shield continue their relentless work.

By the time the final caiman falls, its head crushed beneath a downward smash of my shield rim, the clearing is silent except for the wet drip of blood and our ragged breathing. Every last beast lies dead or dying in the trampled undergrowth, anaconda, jaguars, caimans, all of them reduced to still, bloodied shapes. I remain standing only because my claws are locked into the earth and my tail is still wrapped around Master's body. My left leg is bad, the wound deep and pulsing and a long, ragged gash across my side soaks the dark blue collar and the edge of my leathers in crimson. I am swaying, vision swimming, but I refuse to collapse while he is still upright.

Master is already moving, calm and efficient even now, pulling the herbal medicines from his bag. His hands work with steady precision over the worst of my wounds, packing and binding with practiced care. The first attempts are rough, pain flares again under the pressure but he keeps at it and I force myself to stay still, ears twitching, eyes locked on his face with fierce, unblinking devotion. The bleeding slows. The world stops tilting quite so badly. I remain half curled around him, tail still possessively tight, body pressed close even as the last of the strength drains from my limbs. We are both still breathing. That is all that matters. Nothing else in this forest was ever going to be allowed to take him from me.

My ears twitch weakly as the wooden walls of Forest Point rise around us, the familiar scent of the settlement cutting through the haze of pain. The guards at the gate straighten the moment they see Master, recognition flashing in their eyes; they step aside without a word, spears dipping in quiet respect. My tail stays coiled tight around his arm even as my steps falter, claws occasionally scraping the packed earth for balance while blood still seeps warm through the hurried bindings on my leg and side.

He half carries me straight to the herbalist’s hut outside the bailey. The woman’s hands are steady and practised as she works over the deeper wounds, cleaning, packing, binding with stronger salves than Master’s field kit. The grinding ache in my leg eases, the risk of infection fades under her mid tier care, the limb left intact though stiff and useless for now. Rest is ordered. My body sags harder against Master the moment the treatment finishes, vision swimming, ears flattening as the last of my strength finally slips away.

I surface again sometime later to soft sheets and the low creak of a double bed in the inn. The room is dim and quiet, the scent of clean linen and woodsmoke surrounding us. Master is right there, close enough that my bonded soul settles the instant I feel him. His voice is low and steady.

“Shhhhh we’re in the inn in Forest Point, you just rest, thats all you need my dear kitten.”

His hand finds my tail and strokes the length of it in slow, deliberate passes. The touch sinks straight into my bones, melting the last edges of tension. My ears soften, body curling instinctively toward him even half conscious, tail going limp and heavy under his fingers. The world narrows to the warmth of his palm and the steady rhythm of his breathing. I slip under again without resistance, held safe in the dark by the only thing that has ever mattered.
