Astor Pelletier
Astor Pelletier was the Oddson huntsman’s youngest son. A couple of years older than Magnus, Aston was befriended by Magnus over the course of his duties, and being a willing participant in the adventures that Magnus became a part of. Aston is not the smartest, nor the strongest, but he has a level of connection with animals that surpasses even his father. Whispers of his talent with animals occasionally bubble up as undertoned accusations, but the influence of Rose and Damion keep it in check.
After Magnus was sent as a Ward to the Drákon League, Astor took up more time in the field and out with his father in the smithy.
A few weeks after, a recruiter arrived from the knights, along with an inquisitor. All of the boys with a serviceable level of talent and above were conscripted to join the growing army under the ostensible command of the emperor, but more practically under the Knights of Humanité.
Astor was called to service, as the recruiter put it, as a tracker in the Emperor's new army. He was taught in the basics of combat, but also forced to develop his basic tracking and survival skills as well. In 4706, Astor is called on to join his first expedition. According to the mission brief, he is part of a group traveling to a far away island to put down a group of heretics and a dangerous beast. Little more than that is shared before they depart.
Along the way, Astor gleans that the heretics are elves, mythical creatures that served the ancient beasts of legend. He surmises from his familiarity with the old folk tales that this would mean they're hunting an ancient beast itself, which would explain the odd mix of knights and hunters from the northern mountains.
