Cassandra
Home sweet home. The world of Jom was the only true home she knew. Cassandra could remember Honor’s Reach. Remember the ancient family estate of clan Tyr, but never clearly. Jom was a fortified military camp though, but that military structure was all she had ever known, and it made her feel as ease to be back on the world of Jom after their quarantine period.
A five year contract, she just had to finish her term of enlistment, and she could return to that place, along with her family, and mother. She had already served more than a yea and a half, and she couldn’t see herself enlisting for a second term with the Jom. She loved the time she could spend with Edmund in times like this, and loved the freedom the Jom had from her own family, but there would be a time when she had to return, and take up the mantle of her mother’s Under-lord, and when the time came, Sector-lord of the Hearth Sector, but that would be later, not now.
Cassandra lay in Edmund’s arms as they slept on the beach of the lake hidden in the shade of the large trees. It was quiet but for the sounds of the local wild life, bugs, and birds. The difference between the life on ship, and the calm of Jom was night and day. She could catch her breath, and relax. The world of Jom was defended by several legions at all time, as was the system, and sector. It had never been attacked, and was likely the safest place in the galaxy, even if it was on the edge of Bolgar Space, and the Old Ruins.
Edmund stirred in his sleep, and tightened his grip around Cassandra’s naked body. She enjoyed the warm embrace, as she leaned further into her chest. She was going to enjoy the relaxing and calm days of their time off while the legion recouped, and waited for a new contract to home in to take.
Cassandra didn’t need the credits that the bonus from the contract in the Golden Reef, but neither would she complain. It wasn’t large, nor was it anything to laugh at. By the time the loot from Fornsogtuna was traded on Jom, and with her cut of the legion bonus, she was paid an extra twenty thousand on top of her normal wage.
It was also nice to get back in the loop of normal news from Furse Space. The Jom System was always out of date when it came to any of the kingdoms of Furse Space, they were on the wrong side of the Old Ruins, but it come better news than what Barta Space got in a given week from traffic to and from other systems.
