Harald
The firing range was busy but it was always busy when his father was home of Isca with his fleet. He enjoyed the the time he could spend with his father when he was home instead of off world with his fleet hunting pirates and securing worlds throughout the sector.
Stewart Ungar, his father’s head of security for the clan had ensured that not just Harald but all the wards at Stonehill Hold were well prepared with the different firearms and weapons for self defense. They trained daily with the old burly man as part of their schooling program. Some days it were only exercise to build their fitness and others they would spare with one another to learn to defend themselves from attack with hand to hand combat.
Harald enjoyed the firing range the most. He had quickly become one of the top marksmen in the class but Gwen often proved the better of the two which she took great pride in. He liked when he could spend the time with his father but had to admit that his mother was a far better shot, but still no where as good as her shield-maiden and friend Nena Woodsmith.
Harald didn’t know how often he, Gwen, Joslyn, and the others would hound Nena to train them. She would always make them work for it but in the end she would relent and even sometimes take them into some of the forests are Stonehill Hold to hunt small game, although that often meant no firearms what so ever and ancient weapons known as bows and arrows.
Nena ensured them it would make them better, that they would gain skill that they would otherwise lack but Harald never had any luck on those hunts. Gwen and Joslyn had been able to take down several small game which Quincey had cooked for dinners. Even Jae had scored one victory. Harald and Winnifred though seemed cursed, and even when they were sure they would come home with something, they never did.
At least fishing with his father allowed Harald to bring something home, but he ached for the day he could have a successful hunt. His father would tell him to keep at it and not to worry about it as much. He had showed him other tricks. How to snarl wildlife, and set other traps which could be used to feed the family and others.
Harald enjoyed the tale his father told of his time training to become a member of the Imperial Guard of Fist and the month they were left on an uninhabited world to survive on their own. Nothing but a knife they weren’t even granted clothes.
