Day 374: DROLL

228 0 0

374 days after a wizard cursed the REALM…

Current Version:

In a somber and serious ceremony, the QUEEN designated the new day’s Wordler and tasked her with finding the Word that would save the village. “We wish you luck,” the QUEEN intoned.

“I don’t need luck,” said 374. “What I need is…an audience. Hey, you look like an audience.” She pointed out to the group of concerned villagers who had assembled to witness the event.

“Who, us?” asked members of the crowd.

“Yeah, I’ve always wanted an audience with the QUEEN.” She paused for laughter from the audience. Not receiving any, she moved along, strolling across the platform. “So what’s the deal with this curse? We keep coming up with Words of Power, day after day, but when do we get to assemble them into sentences? It’s been over a year, so we should have a few paragraphs by now.”

Again she paused for laughter that never came.

“You’re not funny!” someone shouted.

“Where did she get that microphone from anyway?”

“Dear,” said the QUEEN, drawing 374 aside. “This isn’t a comedy club. We need to find a Word of Power.”

“There’s power in laughter,” said 374. “In the face of certain doom, there’s no more powerful word than HAHAHAHA!”

“Five letters,” the QUEEN stated.

374 counted on her fingers. “HAHA. HAHAHA. Hmm.”

“And it has to be a dictionary word.”

“Oh! Speaking of dictionaries, I have a whole bunch of dictionary jokes. And what’s the deal about the thesaurus? Is that a kind of dinosaur or what?”

“Perhaps after you come back with the Word, we can let you tell a few jokes,” the QUEEN suggested. “Please, 374. The Word is what’s important.”

“Your Majesty, with all respect, nothing is more important than keeping your sense of humor,” 374 stated. “I’m going to stand here telling jokes until I make you laugh.”

The QUEEN scowled, realizing that no amount of persuasion would move 374 onward in her quest. The QUEEN’s famously dour face set into a granite challenge. “This is going to be a long day.”
